Chelsey: A new ‘class’ of room design
14 Sep
I really need to blog! Being a first year teacher has definitely taken up both my time and my thoughts as of late. For the past 2 months, I have been non-stop between the educational supply store and my new classroom. I am so proud of it. It’s not very big but I really think it has a brightness that my students and myself love. And in return, I have really begun to love all my students.
I would not be the educator I am today if it weren’t for my own sister, the former Miss. Colliflower- Courtney. So much of my beautiful classroom was graciously donated by her. I feel so blessed. From my rack of laminated, colorful “poems of the week” to my pocket chart and stand that house my oh-so-important spelling patterns for the week. Literally upwards of 15 tubs full of school stuff that makes teachers giddy.
While Courtney has graced me with so many great materials and ideas, it was my dear friend Louise (a former co-teacher and BFF of Courtney) that took me under her wing as her intern in my final semester in college and showed me the ropes. We worked so cohesively. A true team. She was pregnant with her first precious child at the time. It was so special for both of us. She essentially taught me everything I know and showed me the right way to do so many things- including teaching children to read. She is such a god send and I am grateful for her every single day as I teach children that- “when 2 vowels go-a-walking, the first one does the talking and always says its name” – as in “team” and “pail.” Thank you Courtney and Louise. Love you ladies so much!
